Waterford Wexford ETB Learner Voice Group

Duration (hrs)5 hours
Aim of ActivityPilot of BEEP learning events- try out some techniques and approaches and gather feedback on the session
Description of Participants/ Target GroupParticipants are all adult learners in Further Education and Training. They are a very diverse group of mixed nationalities and ages. What they have in common is that they have all experiences some degree of education exclusion or marginalisation and have joined a Student Council to work towards making changes.
Activities Carried OutIN PERSON
– Ice-breaker- finding things in common in the room
– Identifying problems and solutions
– Stakeholder engagement activity
Feedback from ParticipantsPositive: Session was collaborative and engaging- “fun” and “nice to meet new people”
Negative:
– Session lacked clarity and focus
– Session used “organisational language” like “stakeholder”- not plain English that everyone can understand
Reflection on ImpactThere needs to be more time and space to start with the participants own experience. The aims and purpose of the session needs to be made a lot clearer. The staff from ETBs we are working with may need training first so that they better understand the foundations of education for participation and democracy.
